Frequently asked questions
How is the cost of a move worked out?
Mainly by how much you're moving, the distance, the buildings and the date. Your load sets the truck size and crew, and distance adds to that. Carrying up stairs without an elevator, or a long walk from the truck to your door, adds a handling fee.
When is Japan's busy moving season, and how much more does it cost?
February to April is the busy season — expect about 1.2× normal prices. Around March 20 to April 7 is the most expensive time of year, up to about 1.5×. Moving in mid-April or May instead can save a lot.
Does a building without an elevator cost more?
Yes. Carrying by stairs adds a fee for each floor above the first — about ¥2,000 per floor for a small load, more for bigger ones. With an elevator there's no stairs fee.
How can I make my move cheaper?
Move on a weekday, let the mover choose the start time (a "flexible" slot, usually about 15% cheaper), avoid the busy season, and pack yourself. Clearing out unwanted furniture first with junk removal can also let you book a smaller truck.
What's the difference between per-item pickup and a flat truck load?
Per-item pickup is a call-out fee plus a price for each item, which is cheapest for a few things. A flat truck load is one price for a full kei or 2t truck, better value the more you clear. IeGo's estimator prices both and shows the cheaper one.
What are appliance recycling fees?
Fridges, washers, TVs and air conditioners fall under Japan's Home Appliance Recycling Law, so disposing of them carries a fixed fee set by each manufacturer — from ¥3,740 for a fridge, ¥2,530 for a washer and ¥2,970 for a TV. It's paid on top of collection.
Will the real price differ from the estimate?
The estimate is a ballpark based on independent movers' rates. The final price is set by the mover's quote once they've checked your items and buildings. Requesting quotes is free and needs no phone number.
